DIARY OF THE FIRST DAY OF THE FORUM

            On March 21, the opening ceremony of the International Forum of Cardiology and Internal Medicine was held and the scientific sessions began in four halls of the RussianAcademy of Sciences. An introductory speech and a greeting were made by Academician Oganov R.G. and Professor Mamedov M.N. Traditionally, the Organizing Committee awarded 5 scientists and clinicians with diplomas for their contribution to the development of cardiac science and therapeutic services. Reports were presented at the plenary session by Prof. Kukharchuk V.V. (Moscow) on dyslipidemia, Professor Khalimova Yu.Sh. (St. Petersburg) on the hypoglycemic therapy and the main therapist of Uzbekistan, Professor Kamilova U.K. (Tashkent) on nephroprotection.

            On the first day of the forum more than 600 delegates from various regions of Russia and foreign countries were registered. For the first time, large delegations of Turkey (100 delegates) and Moldova (30 delegates) took part in the work of the Forum.

            Two symposia were held with the participation of Turkish scientists: on atrial fibrillation and rheumatoid arthritis. At the end of the meetings, Russian and Turkish experts had an interesting discussion and exchange of opinions.

            The first meeting of young scientists also took place on March 21. All young scientists reported the results of their own research and answered questions. At the end of the meeting, they received diplomas and souvenirs.

            Within the framework of the forum, master classes, round tables and symposia were held in various areas of cardiology and somatic diseases with the participation of academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, also leading professors.

            A small exhibition of industry aroused great interest among the delegates of the Forum. All participants noted the academicity and independence of the reports, the meetings had a democratic aura.
